Planting Instructions and Tips to Tree Growers

Planting Sizes

For Field planting we recommend 2 or 3 year old pine seedlings, four inches or over.  Larger seedlings should be planted if the soil is fertile and apt to produce high grass and weeds.  As for spruce and fir, plant nothing less than three year old seedlings, eight inches or over.   Four year old seedlings (4-0) and four, five, and six year old transplants (2-2), (2-3), (3-2), and (3-3) are recommended but not necessary for successful planting.  Smaller seedlings should be lined out in beds until the above sizes are reached; they may then be transplanted in fields.
